Challenge: read all of Luke 19
Winding our way through the gospel of Luke, we are learning about Jesus’ ministry here in earth. The babe that was born in Bethlehem has become a man walking in the power and anointing of his Heavenly Father.
We have read about how many people devoured what He taught, but there were many who plotted His demise. At this point in the book, many of his disciples still felt He was going to set up an earthly kingdom.
Enter Zacchaeus. We find him climbing up a sycamore tree because he was so determined to see Jesus! Verse 3 says he sought Jesus. This was not a casual looking around for Jesus. He was a man on a mission!
We remember at the beginning of Luke how the wise men sought Jesus to bring Him gifts. Historians say the Magi didn’t show up the day Jesus was born despite all the cute nativity scenes we see! But they traveled from the Far East to find Him. No doubt having to face peril and storms along the way, but they SOUGHT Jesus. They also were in a mission!
We know the verse about seek and you shall find. I love the little sayings I have seen, “Wise men still seek Him!” We should seek Jesus and make it our mission to find Him. But…did you know Jesus is also seeking?
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Luke 19:10 KJV
Jesus is seeking out the lost so He can change their lives and bring salvation to them. As we seek the true meaning of Christmas this year, let’s not forget Jesus is seeking too. We are His hands and feet here in earth. Let’s share not only the birth of Jesus but also how He is our Savior and longs for the lost to know Him!
