Luke chapter 11
As we continue to read through the book of Luke this month of December, we jump right into the disciples asking Jesus to teach them to pray.
Luke 11:2-4 King James Version (KJV)
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
The Lord’s Prayer as we have come to know it, is also referenced in several other of the gospels. The phrase that has always stood out to me, was “Thy will be done, as it is in Heaven.”
I am reminded what Mary told the angel, Gabriel, in chapter 1 of Luke, verse 38. it done unto me according to thy word.” Basically Mary was saying “Let your will be done in me as it is in Heaven, so shall it be done on earth.” At that moment, she came into agreement with the will of God and became impregnated with Jesus the Word Himself!
How powerful! What would happen in our lives, if we as Mary, would declare God’s will to be done in our lives and we live in a way that invites His will to be done? I dare say that we could experience more of Heaven right here on this earth than we would know what to do with!
Let’s think on this phrase today as we continue our journey in Luke.
