Well just like the bank teller learns to identify counterfeit money by examining and handling REAL money, lets identify mediocre or bad fellowship by first examining GOOD or GREAT fellowship. The mediocre or bad fellowship would be fellowship that is weak or fails at meeting the Bible standard.
What is the standard? The standard set forth in the Bible is simply:
Fellowship should edify!
http://www.merriam-webster.com defines edify like this:
to instruct or improve (someone) especially in moral and religious knowledge: UPLIFT
Can fellowship UPLIFT, instruct, or improve with out words, or friendship?
Well acts of service can sometimes speak louder than words. Offerings of physical help (canned goods, soup and bread, a patched roof…) can certainly be a boost. Any show of love, any good teaching can contribute to good Christian fellowship.
Is your church involved in any ministry to edify believers of the congregation or members of the larger community?
If you go to church, sit in the pew, participate in singing or worship, and hear good sermon, have you been edified or uplifted. Hopefully YES.
What is the BEST?
The best would be where you have friendships…the opportunity to grow and invest and participate in friendships, where members of the church body treat you like family because you are a member of Christ’s family.
TALKING, dialogue, listening, caring, would usually be important elements of good or great fellowship that is good for edification of yourself and your family, and obviously if acting like FAMILY then there will be time shared, good times shared.
In time, word, or deed, LIFTING one another up, to be the BEST he or she can be for Christ, that is good or great fellowship!
May YOU contribute to good and great fellowship!
Are you looking for it?
My advice is look, and try, and pray. Look and try and pray. Visiting churches, exploring all options, being ready to invest and respond in friendship and with time, praying for God’s guidance, and His help, I truly believe God will honor this prayer, and lead you to good fellowship somewhere, some way, somehow.
If you have a comment, question or a prayer request, we would be honored to respond in love and kindness at Telling Hearts.
fellowship- friendly association, especially with people who share one’s interests
my examination of scripture, KJV
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another
1 Corinthians 14:26
…when ye come together… Let all things be done unto edifying.
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love
You are invited to my home blog, Grandma Mary Martha, to read two realistic fiction stories about two UNUSUAL church meetings, which were based on true stories that friends told to me. Grandma and Grandpa Moses , The Family of Joseph Stine
I urge you to NOT GIVE UP, the pursuit of wonderful Christian fellowship. Persistence and prayer, will bring the best, if your heart is open, and if you have not heard from my other sisters at Telling Hearts, on the topic of Fellowship, then I invite you to do so. You will be glad that you did:
