Beyond Embarrassment

Beyond EmbarrassmentHave you ever experienced something in life that you were embarrassed about?  That is to say, something that would change if you had the choice or chance?  Something that you were ashamed or embarrassed about?  I surely have.

I suppose that there is a little bit of pride, and certainly self respect at the bottom of embarrassment.  We like to think we are above or beyond the circumstances, event or situation that in some way causes embarrassment?

We can probably all agree that a certain amount of self respect is normal or healthy.  After all, as Christians we know that Christ valued our lives enough to live the perfect life on earth and be sacrificed on the cross as payment for our sin, in order that by GRACE we may be saved and live in eternal paradise.

As Christians, we know that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, after all.  Some appreciation for this value that our Father and Savior puts on us would naturally translate into a certain amount of self love so it would seem to me, but I am talking about when the focus feels EMBARRASSMENT or HUMILIATION for

…life gone wrong….

…not according to our plan,

…or maybe according to our plan, but yet still FAILURE

…maybe embarrassment  or humiliation resulted from behavior or circumstances brought on by someone else…

…sometimes we can even take on UNREASONABLE embarrassment (us insecure types)

However it comes or settles, EMBARRASSMENT is not fun.

EMBARRASSMENT stinks!

What can we do about it?  Well if we are at fault, then apologize…pray…seek guidance from our Father.  Rest in His arms and in His word!

Most importantly, if there is a way to look beyond the embarrassment and see where the Father can be glorified, then do so.Even Beyond Embarrassment....

Tell the story of your embarrassment to others, if God is to be glorified in this story.  Be joyful for when glory is reflected to the Father even if your embarrassment is part of the story.

This is actually a heart lesson that I received one summer when I was carrying a burden of embarrassment, and God spoke to my heart and said, “It’s not about you Tammy.  It’s about ME.  Let me be glorified.”

I do not mean to in any way imply that God is happy for us to be embarrassed.  Let’s assume that my embarrassment is/was a by-product of someone’s sin, my sin, or just frailty of flesh, or victim of fallen state of the world, or someone’s flat out foolishness…. but the reason really doesn’t matter.  It was a great lesson to learn:  Get your eyes off yourself, and back on to me daughter.  Glorify me.
